I seem to have been “gifted” with an unwanted copy of Chromium on my
iMac. I swear I never downloaded it and I don’t want it.

I can’t find it in Applications so how do I get rid of it?

Any advice from the “gurus” on this NG?

Thanks, Peter.

Do you happen to be running Dropbox? Because the new iteration of that
is a pile of cock that includes an entire copy of Chromium embedded in
it "to run the UI".

I don't know if you can revert to an older version of the Dropbox client
and still run without issues, but that's the first direction I'd suggest
looking.

If you don't run Dropbox, I have no idea.

I use Dropbox too - and I cannot find any instance of Chromium either!

I find that KnockKnock is useful in finding things which shouldn't be
present.

Know anything about them?

scam site.

do not use *any* app cleaners.

they are very dangerous and can potentially remove stuff they should
not, causing more problems than they try to solve.

in fact, the risk is so high that macos has specific code to block them
from removing critical parts of the os (that isn't already protected by
sip).

I have used the first method as it’s pretty straightforward and you are in
control. Was Chromium installed in /Applications or elsewhere?

I use AppCleaner, but with care. It offers a list of files it thinks are
appropriate, but you can go through them and select before you hit the
remove button. Do not accept its advice blindly.
